On the same year in December 2004 the
Tsunami tidal waves washed the shores of our Island
and Trincomalee was no exception. The Centre
involved itself in providing relief and
rehabilitation to the victims of Tsunami...

Not loosing its sight and original goal,
the Centre conducted few Human Rights
awareness programmes, amongstudents and adult members of the
civil society.

Tsunami is not a short term programme as
envisaged. The Centre continues its various activities
and support among the children affected by Tsunami and
over 150 children benefiting by it.
The Centre also takes into consideration the children
whose father is extra judicially killed due to the
violence experienced in this district

Similarly, women affected by Tsunami were
in dire need along with other women placed in a
vulnerable situation. For them the Centre offered some
of its limited space to learn skills of employment, to
enable them to stand on their own foot.
Also the women widowed due the ethnic conflict are
supported through this programme to find self employment

Human Rights belong to all sectors of the
society. Right from the beginning the Centre has shown
its concern for the prisoners and assisting them to
change their life and becomeaccepted members to the society. The Director is
also the current President of the Prisoners Welfare
Association, involving this Association to cater to the
welfare of the prisoners.

In August 2006, the war erupted and the
Internally Displaced People poured into Trincomalee town
from Muthur district. The Centre expressed its
solidarity and registered its voice for the rights of
the IDPs and engaged specially in the continued
education of the children.
